Two of our Faculty Members and one of our Ph.D. students were awarded the Turkish Journalists’ Association (TGC) Sedat Simavi Award.

We wholeheartedly congratulate Assoc. Prof. Tuğba Bağcı Önder of School of Medicine and Assoc. Prof. Alper Uzun and his Ph.D. student Yuxin Zhao of College of Engineering for their awards in health sciences and sciences, respectively.

Assoc. Prof. Tuğba Bağcı Önder received the award for her research on the molecular mechanism of resistance to a drug called TRAIL, which orders cancer cells to self-destruct in the treatment of glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer.

Assoc. Prof. Alper Uzun and his Ph.D. student Yuxin Zhao were awarded for their article, published ACS Catalysis with cover art, presence of an interplay between the copper nanoparticle size and the oxygen vacancies on the Mg-doped ceria controlling the partial hydrogenation performance and stability of the copper active sites.
